Update to a Free and Sovereign Lakota Nation
2011 update on the process of a free and sovereign Lakota nation.
Since 2007, there has been an ongoing process to realize what the Lakota Freedom Delegation actions in Washington DC may have on a Lakota people who continue to fight colonial warfare and genocide. Also, there has been a process to uncover which effort (Lakota Oyate vs Republic of Lakotah) has proven to best represent the people.
The effort to assert sovereignty and a renewed freedom for the Lakota people known as “Lakota Oyate” has been defended by Cante Tenza: Strong Heart Warrior Society. In the months following the Lakota Freedom Delegation, Headsman Canupa Gluha Mani aka Duane Martin Sr. attended numerous meetings both with Lakota Elders and leadership of other Indigenous nations concerned or interested in the Lakota Freedom effort.
Due to the history of Cante Tenza as a defender of the Lakota people, and the integrity shown by Duane Martin Sr. in being the only delegate member to cut up his BIA identification, the Lakota Oyate freedom movement has been given support by traditional Lakota Elders, treaty councils, and other Indigenous Nations.
This freedom effort has also been recognized by the Official League of Indian Nations of North America(LINNA), an organization formed legally on July 7, 1944 during a meeting of Indian chiefs of North America.
The Lakota Oyate freedom movement has also been recognized by International Parliament for Safety and Peace, which is recognized by over 130 nations around the world, and recognized under the Vienna Convention of April 19, 1961 as per certificate #0/32.
Since that time, Cante Tenza has legally issued over 250+ sovereign Lakota identification cards to replace those provided by the U.S. Government Bureau of Indian Affairs.
